Gandhi Movie Screening Plus Q&A

Tuesday · 4:00 – 7:45 p.m. · SourcePoint Center for Senior Citizens, Delaware County

An acclaimed masterpiece, GANDHI depicts the life of Mohandas Gandhi, the beloved leader who led the people of India in a nonviolent struggle for freedom from the British empire. Winner of 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Richard Attenborough) and Best Actor (Ben Kingsley).

Following the screening, the Gandhi Memorial Society will host a discussion and Q&A session. Feel free to bring your own dinner, snack, and drink.

Essay Competition Among Dublin Schools Students

September 2019 · Three Dublin High Schools

An essay competition covering Gandhi's principles, open to students of the three Dublin High Schools — roughly 100 participants across the schools.

Winners from each high school received First, Second and Third prizes. The best essay overall was awarded a Grand Prize of $1,000, and every participant was recognized with a memento of participation.

Post Mark Cancellation by USPS

Wednesday · 9:00 a.m. · Dublin Post Office, 43016, Emerald Parkway

The United States Postal Service erected a special kiosk at the Dublin Post Office. Every postal stamp brought to the kiosk that day was cancelled with a special precancellation stamp bearing the likeness of Mahatma Gandhi.

The special cancellation continued for the following 29 days, for the convenience of philatelic enthusiasts.

The Awards Distribution Ceremony

Held alongside an exhibition of Gandhian books and posters of quotes drawn by Dublin School students — the lobbies suitably decorated for the occasion.

Exhibition of Books and Posters

January 30, 2018

January 30, 2018 marked the 70th anniversary of the death of Mahatma Gandhi. The Society commemorated the occasion with a public exhibition of books and posters on Gandhi, Dr. King, and Nelson Mandela at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, Downtown Columbus. Ohio Civil Rights Commissioner Mrs. Madhu Kumari Singh delivered the keynote address; Senator Sherrod Brown, Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, and Consul General of India Sandeep Chakravorty sent congratulatory messages.

Throughout the day, visitors viewed more than 200 books, resulting in brisk sales — and a set of philatelic posters on Gandhi drew considerable interest.

Free Screening of Movie "GANDHI" (Ben Kingsley)

This film, with Ben Kingsley as Gandhi, won eight Oscars — including Best Actor for Kingsley — and was shown to a large, appreciative audience.

Free Screening of Movie "A Force More Powerful"

The film traces how, in six countries besides India, civil disobedience, nonviolence and love proved more powerful than brutal force. Of particular note is Denmark, which after being overrun by the Nazi war machine refused to cooperate, and through negotiation and nonviolent resistance helped save the lives of more than 7,000 Jews.
